Ubuntu Server – Remove Raid Array

Nice and simple:

mdadm --stop /dev/md0
mdadm --remove /dev/md0
mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdb1
mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdc1

Hello again,

just wondering why you added this ~ did you need to remove your raid array?

Also, I noticed my power brick gets pretty warm ~ does yours?

No I did not have to remove it, this article was just for completeness in my Virtual box testing before I got the BBS2.

My temps are:
Chip Temp: +42.0 C
CPU Temp: +56.0 C
Sys Temp: +50.0 C
/dev/sda: SAMSUNG HD103UJ: 37 C
/dev/sdb: SAMSUNG HD103UJ: 37 C

However, before the hot weather recently the drives were sitting at 31-33 C fairly consistently. A friend at work got a BBS2 with 5x 1.5Tb 7200rpm Seagates and the BBS2 box could not cool them enough to the point that the drives got hotter than the recommended operating temperature. I need to blog this as a warning to others, but I need to get all the juicy details. He got an 8 way drobo and popped them in that which ran them cool as a cucumber. Drobo’s are superb if you don’t want to use linux and have nice deep pockets….
